Options and Equipment

THE VAN: Began as a 1/2 ton, standard length (not long or short) with the famously reliable, powerful AND fuel efficient 5.7 liter V8. The initial van, prior to conversion, included features such as: auto with overdrive; front and rear ventilation; power windows, locks, windows and mirrors; tilt and cruise control; dual airbags; and more

TOURING/CRUISING CONVERSION When new, this was converted by a premier , decades-old company, which happens to be one of few such companies which has survived the recession.  This company is called "Explorer" and as you see in the photos, their conversions (inside and out) are very contemporary in appearance, gorgeous and so nicely executed.

* The highlights and primary elements of the substantial, original exterior conversion include: moderately tall, attractively contoured roof; substantial package of lower body panels not only make the van look very sporty and fancy, but they also hide integrated running boards which make getting in and out much easier; has custom bumpers with helpful rear step; integrated towing package with hitch and wiring; large windows with modern "flush mount" style and air vents; custom wheels and tires; attractive graphics and striping

* The highlights and primary elements of the substantial ,original interior conversion include: leather seats; power directional adjustments and power lumbar features on BOTH front seats; extensive real wood trim pieces, storage bin doors, etc; has many storage bins; spaces for audio/video system (currently vacant); extensive custom lighting with various adjustability; very fancy interior fabrics, trim and details; has custom rear seat, which functions like two captains chairs with center arrest, but can accommodate 3 people if desired and this seat is easily removable if desired; overhead console controls various electronic features

MOBILITY:  This van became a mobility/wheelchair van only a few thousand miles and less than two years ago.  And since then it has had only a few thousand miles of use.  Below, find details regarding this conversion, and indications as to which items are brand new and completed during my rejuvenation, versus what was installed recently.

* NEARLY NEW: Has power lift accessible via the two side 'barn-doors'. It is a Ricon (one of the two major lift makers) and has a wonderful feature which causes the platform to automatically fold into two parts when stowed, thus allowing an able-bodied person to easily go in and out of the van when the lift is stowed. Heavy capacity and generously-sized platform is plenty capable for most wheelchairs and even most large users. (new installed cost of this lift is apx $7,000)

* NEARLY NEW: Includes a Ricon power base under the drivers seat. This allows for extreme travel up and down, forward and back, and most importantly, this allows the seat to turn apx 90 degrees.  (new installed cost for this feature is apx $4,000)

* NEARLY NEW: Has a dedicated HD battery system which operates the lift

* BRAND NEW: Comes with 4 anchor points, ready for you to install in the exact locations of your choosing, as your specific wheelchair parking needs indicate.

* BRAND NEW: While in the process of rejuvenating, a certain major step was taken to improve this floor for wheelchair use: I had new flooring system installed, which includes a solid wood underlayment and new special carpet, creating a solid, smooth and level surface to maneuver the wheelchair on. This brand new, commercial carpet is my favorite for wheelchair van use. This is very short pile, incredibly durable, easy to clean, and extremely easy to manage the wheelchair on.  Most folks discover that a wheelchair van with this wood/carpet system I have developed is a VERY BIG improvement over the common flooring.  You see, if you look closely at a common van floor, it has subtle bumps, lumps and ridges (is how stock van floors are) which are underneath a type of carpet (nice for normal vans, not great for wheelchair use) which is thicker than what works best for maneuvering a wheelchair on.  Once you experience a special floor like this, you would want no other.

History of Ownership

Had 2 early owners, plus the well-to-do person I purchased it from, who only used it for a few thousand miles and then decided to convert a 4x4 SUV, instead of using this van.

Certified

This vehicle is 'CERTIFIED': There are a combined 76 mechanical and cosmetic aspects  included in the Wheelchair Van Oasis "Certification" process.   A foundational step of the rejuvenation process is when each vehicle receives an extensive inspection by an objective, independent  third- party service and repair facility.  Suggested service, repairs and improvements are then performed by various professional specialists.   The  result is your assurance  that each of the 76 aspects  meets  or exceeds the condition level of good, or satisfactory

For details regarding list of 76 cosmetic and mechanical aspects, please click here.

Each van does of course have various elements which exceed the promised level of good, or
satisfactory, which the "Certified" program assures.  Some are brand new improvements performed during rejuvenation.  And others are obvious service or repairs performed recently, prior to my ownership.  As for those, I only list here those positives which are certain, based on my either having a receipt, and/or due to being obvious to the inspecting-mechanic.  I refer to these as  "NEW OR RECENTLY SERVICED ASPECTS".  As for this vehicle:

New: multiple oxygen sensors; major A/C system overhaul including new compressor; interior lighting updates; battery; transmission service; front shocks; rear differential/axle service; replace power mirror; misc exterior light bulbs; service lift and transfer seat

Recent: front AND rear brakes

Approximate retail value/cost of above-listed items: $3,000

(extensive investment in cosmetic rejuvenation as well as special flooring project and other upgrades is in addition to this $3,000)

You Might Like To Know...

* Each of my vans has a superb paint sealant as the final step of the extreme detail. If you were to have a professional apply a treatment the cost would be several hundred dollars.

* Chevy/GMC wheelchair vans are quite uncommon, as apx. 70% of all full size wheelchair vans are Ford and Dodge and GM vans are the balance.  The main reason so many are Fords is because due to certain market circumstances, they cost less when new.
