Options and Equipment

THE VAN:

Began as a 1/2 ton, standard length with 5.8 (351) engine. It originally had an XLT level of comfort and convenience features such as: power windows, locks and mirrors, tilt, cruise and stereo. Also had chrome bumpers, factory alloy wheels, and more.

GOODIES:

When it was new it was created by a conversion specialist into a fancy tall roof van, with the specific goal of being a very highly functional, as well as attractive, wheelchair van.  And so, it has the moderately tall roof, contoured...not giant and boxy.  Also includes big picture windows with vents. Has useful and attractive running boards (full length side steps) and fancy wheel-opening moldings and fancy rear spare tire carrier system. Plus, there is some additional interior lighting and wood trim and rear ventilation.  And so, this is a fancy van of the nature most folks would call a conversion van of the "touring" or "cruising" nature.  And now we move on to the super-level of mobility/adaptive features.

MOBILITY:

This was built when new for a person who was technically considered a quadriplegic !  As with most wheelchair vans, there was much advance planning prior to building this van, which creates a great amount of flexibility.  In other words...this had and now has features that may or may not be needed by you, but they are there if you need or want them...now or in the future.  I have noticed that certain features that are not "needed" by a person or their family, can come in very handy if they are there.  As you read the details below, please consider and keep in mind that your needs may or may not require certain features, however, they are there if you need them...now or in the future.  And if you or your family currently does need extreme capability such as this van offers, there is virtually zero selection available of vans anywhere near this price...and surely none that are "Certified" as this one is, with incredibly low miles.

* Has the contoured, stylish, moderately tall roof (not super tall and ugly-boxy) which creates wonderful headroom and clearance.

* Lowered floor in the middle section as well as drivers area (front passenger area has tall roof above it, but not a lowered floor). The combined headroom benefit of this lowered floor PLUS tall roof is about 18 inches!  Wow, the total interior headroom is a couple inches shy of 6 feet!  And at the side entry, the lowered floor creates about 8 inches of extra entry clearance at the lowest point.  Therefore, this has floor to ceiling dimensions (and entry clearance) which nearly match the ugly public transport vans with tall ugly roofs. (because they don't have a lowered floor)

* Several locations for wheelchair anchor straps in the floor

* Power opening/swinging side doors

* Side entry wheelchair lift with automatic bi-fold platform (this allows for easy passage of able-bodied persons in and out of the van when the lift is stowed). This platform folds out of the way automatically when you either stow or open the lift.

* Currently has a "Ricon" brand power turning base under the drivers seat. This allows for extreme travel front and back, up and down and also its able to spin/turn. This combined seat and power base assembly could be easily removed if a person wants to drive from their wheelchair.

* Multiple locations with switches for operating lift and power side doors. Also has wireless remote control for these features, nice...

* Has advanced, adjustable hand controls

* Includes "backup power steering" system (this one feature $2,000 cost)

* Has backup battery system (dual batteries with special isolator)

* Special flooring is smooth, solid, durable and ultra-easy to maneuver a wheelchair on.  The super material is industrial-grade linoleum, on top of cabinet-grade plywood

* Giant, custom power mirrors.  These have two sections, one for wide-angle and the other for normal viewing.

* Has both "low effort" power steering and "low effort" power brakes

*** and now, for the big bonus news: this has an extremely valuable and important system which some people in wheelchairs absolutely need in order to drive.  This is a system sold by a veteran company called "DigiPad" which essentially has a monopoly on such systems.  I will be happy to explain in detail if you would like to call me.  Simply put, I'll describe it like this: see the control-center to the right of the driver (can be mounted elsewhere, as needed) which is apx. the size of a laptop computer.  It has soft-touch buttons which control nearly every functional feature on the van. This allows a person with very limited strength and/or movement of their arms & hands to operate a variety of features, such as: gear shifter functions; heat and A/C; wipers; custom mirrors; lights; cruise control; door locks; power windows; power mirrors; temperature; etc. This system is an absolute necessity for certain people in wheelchairs who want complete freedom to transport themselves.  A system like this has a new cost of more than $10,000!  Please call for more details about this most special of features.

Note: an able bodied person is able to learn to use this system very easily, just as I and several other people have, during the rejuvenation process here.  And so, if you need some of the features this van has, but don't need this "DigiPad" system, this van can still serve you very well, and easily.

Features note: If there is a specific mobility/adaptive feature you need, this likely has it.  My list above may not include every feature.  Frankly, it is so highly equipped it would be easy for me to overlook something. Please ask any questions you may have about this VERY special van.

  History of Ownership

Only two families have owned this. The first family had it built to allow someone who was considered to be a quad (yes, quad) to be fully independent.  The second family (who I bought it from) also needed it for a quad to use in order to be fully independent.  And so most recently this van was driven for several years by a young woman in her early 20's, who became a quad as a result of a freak auto accident.

Certified

This vehicle is 'CERTIFIED': There are a combined 76 mechanical and cosmetic aspects  included in the Wheelchair Van Oasis "Certification" process.   A foundational step of the rejuvenation process is when each vehicle receives an extensive inspection by an objective, independent  third- party service and repair facility.  Suggested service, repairs and improvements are then performed by various professional specialists.   The  result is your assurance  that each of the 76 aspects  meets  or exceeds the condition level of good, or satisfactory

For details regarding list of 76 cosmetic and mechanical aspects, please click here.

Each van does of course have various elements which exceed the promised level of good, or
satisfactory, which the "Certified" program assures.  Some are brand new improvements performed during rejuvenation.  And others are obvious service or repairs performed recently, prior to my ownership.  As for those, I only list here those positives which are certain, based on my either having a receipt, and/or due to being obvious to the inspecting-mechanic.  I refer to these as  "NEW OR RECENTLY SERVICED ASPECTS".  As for this vehicle:

New: rebuilt custom power mirrors; wipers; oil and lube; special parking brake system rebuilt;  major transmission service; coolant system flush; front ball joints; front shocks; alignment; rebuilt the custom "low effort" steering system; air filter;  starter; very extensive refreshing/rejuvenating of the many various mobility components such as: power side doors; lift; turning seat; various special devices related to the "Digipad" control system

Recent: front brakes; 2 tires, new "DigiPad" control pad

Big point: NOT included in my $4,000 number is many thousands of dollars in improvements, add-ons, and updates to various systems and features which were competed in the past few years and only 5,000-15,000 miles)

Approximate retail value/cost of above-listed items: $4,000

(extensive investment in cosmetic rejuvenation is in addition to this $4,000)

You Might Like To Know...

* Ford vans from 1992-2006 have almost the same design, in fact, most folks would hardly notice the difference between vans of that wide age range. This one has had many visual upgrades, and is immaculate inside and out, and so it seems to be MUCH newer than its calendar age indicates

* Each of my vans has a superb paint sealant as the final step of the extreme detail. If you were to have a professional apply a treatment the cost would be several hundred dollars.

Summary of this Gem

Wow, this is such a unique, special van, and with such low miles.  My hope is that a family discovers this van who needs much or all of the long list of features it has.  In today's market, it would cost around $90,000 dollars to re-create this van, as it is currently equipped !  And of course, as with each van I offer, it is in absolutely amazing "Certified" mechanical and cosmetic condition, in every way.  Please look closely at the photos and read the captions...because there is much to see and discover.
