Highlights of This Van:

apx. $2,200 of new and very recent mechanical service: details below
(extensive investment in cosmetic rejuvenation is in addition to this $2,200)

* Although this has the special ordered conversion that is designed for heavy use, such as for taxis and facilities, it has never had that sort of use, as it has been all personal use. Due to its easy history and having no electronic ramp or power door or fancy suspension, these mobility features on this van should have an exceptional remaining life ahead.

* Chevy Venture vans are a bit larger inside than many other minivans of the same era. In a wheelchair van, even a bit of extra space is a noticeable benefit.

Options and Equipment

THE VAN:

Began as a well-equipped, upgraded model with deluxe cloth interior and armrests, tinted windows, upgraded interior and exterior features, and much more. It has the famously reliable, strong and yet reasonably fuel efficient 3.4 liter V6 (medium size for a 6) with a full range of power and convenience features such as: power windows, tilt wheel and cruise control; power locks and mirrors; factory alloy wheels; auto with overdrive; rear ventilation; brand new CD stereo with accessory jack.

MOBILITY

When new, the industry leader, Braun, converted this. They are a 35-year-old company that buys several thousand new vans each year and converts them for wheelchair access, and then sells them through a special dealer network. Braun invests much into the design and execution of the conversions, which results in a van that looks great, feels great, and functions smoothly, easily and reliably. This van model named an "Entervan" was special ordered with a package that provides the absolutely important and valuable features that allow minivans to be excellent wheelchair vans. However, this special package results in absolute reliability and nearly zero need for maintenance or possible needed repairs of the mobility components. This is due to having a manually operated side door and see below for details about this awesome, simple ramp. Here is a list of the primary conversion features:

* Lightweight aluminum ramp with spring-assist: made with solid aluminum that is super strong and yet lightweight too. Very easy to put down to the ground and up to stow it. There is no motor to operate this and therefore, there are no electronics to break, and no service or maintaining needed. This ramp is long and wide, sufficient for even very large wheelchairs to safely and easily maneuvers on and has a 600 pound rating. This ramp also has what is called a "gate feature", which allows for the ramp to easily swing out of the way for entry/exit of able-bodied folks while ramp is stowed in doorway area.

* Very deeply lowered floor: (apx 15 inches) begins in front of original rear seat, and extends all the way to below the dash. This is smooth, level and firm, which is ideal for wheelchair maneuverability. This deep floor and great engineering creates nearly 56 inches (many lowered floor minivans in this age or price category only have 52-54 inches) of entry clearance at the lowest point and then there are several inches more headroom than that when inside the van.

* Special flooring surface: commercial-grade textured surface on a metal floor, creates great traction and durability, plus it sweeps or mops clean. This is not carpet nor vinyl, it is a permanent texture on top of metal flooring.

* Both front seat assemblies are easily removable: takes only a couple of minutes, if you want or need to park a wheelchair in either front location. The floor under the seats is the same material as the main floor area.

* Slots to insert anchor straps in the floor: they are in many locations, in order to secure a wheelchair nearly anywhere in the forward or middle areas of the van

* Includes 4 anchor straps: this will be 2 manually adjustable and 2 auto-retractors.

Ownership

Other than less than 10,000 miles of its life during a couple of years, this has been owned by one person

Certified

This vehicle meets our very high standard. There are a combined 76 mechanical and cosmetic aspects included in the Wheelchair Van Oasis Rejuvenation process. A foundational step of the process is when each vehicle receives an extensive inspection by an objective, independent, third- party service and repair facility. Various professional specialists then perform suggested service, repairs and improvements. The result is your assurance that each of the 76 aspects meets (and very often exceeds) our promised condition level of good, or satisfactory.

Each van does of course have various elements that exceed the promised level of good or satisfactory, which the "Certified" program assures. Some are brand new improvements performed during rejuvenation. Others are obvious service or repairs performed recently, prior to my ownership. As for those, I only list below those positives which are certain, based on my either having a receipt, and/or due to being obvious to the inspecting-mechanic. I refer to these as "NEW OR RECENTLY SERVICED ASPECTS". As for this vehicle:

Here are the new and recent items:

New: EGR valve; other emissions related pieces; oil and lube; intake manifold and gaskets; wipers; rear wiper repair
Recent: front and rear brakes; all 4 tires;

Approximate retail value/cost of above-listed items: $2,200

Carfax Report Summary

(Carfax is a widely used database which indicates the history of a vehicle including accidents, prior owners, etc.)

Nothing notably negative or unusual. No airbags deployed...No damage leading to such report notes as salvage, totaled, etc...no "red marks" on the report...no major accident...no lemon history…no odometer tampering…no derogatory remarks on the state-issued title

You Might Like To Know...

* Each of my vans has a superb paint sealant as the final step of the extreme detail. If you were to have a professional apply a treatment the cost would be several hundred dollars.

* Due to this fairly modern vintage having a deeper lowered floor than older vans, and because Venture vans are a bit bigger than most minivans, the interior of this feels and functions larger than many other minivans. Its not a big difference, but it does help with an extra inch or two here and their, including having more entry clearance and interior headroom.

Summary of this Gem

This one is in a nice sweet spot for features, miles and price. This is a van that provides a great overall balance. This package of non-electrically operated mobility features is absolutely what you want, if ultimate-reliability is a goal for you. The major benefit of this van is of course the very low miles.
