Options and Equipment

THE VAN:

This began as a standard length (not long or short) ½ ton, 1500 series. Has a smallish V8 (5.9) and auto with overdrive transmission. Before the fancy conversion described below, it included a nice list of features such as: power windows, locks, mirrors; tilt and cruise; stereo; etc.

Note: this has a super feature, not common on such vans as this...posi-traction rear axle (also known as limited slip). A great feature if you care about winter traction, or drive on sand, mud or any slick surfaces

GOODIES

When new, this received a very major touring/cruising conversion by a major, national convertor called, Regency.

This interior and exterior conversion includes such interior features as: power, leather seats; power rear seat that folds flat and has extension to make into a full size bed; upgraded factory stereo with CD and EQ; rear ventilation; much real wood trim and cabinet doors; deluxe carpet; much custom and versatile lighting; video system; large thin screen TV; and much more.

The exterior package has features such as: moderately tall, nicely contoured and styled roof; large windows with vents; fancy chrome bumpers and grill; custom graphics/stripes; functional running boards and wheel opening flares; fancy wheels; much more

MOBILITY

* Moderately tall doors and corresponding roof notch: this creates the extra entry clearance, which some folks must have. For folks in wheelchairs, who don't absolutely require it, because they can duck, slouch, lean or tilt as they enter...its still a nice feature to have as it makes going in and out easier. Plus, it makes access/egress for able- bodied folks so much nicer as well.

* Heavy-duty lift: very few personal use wheelchair vans have heavy-duty lifts, rated at 800 pounds, such as this one. Most such vans have 600-pound ratings on their lifts. Some folks require this 800-pound level of capacity and even if you don't, it can be nice peace of mind knowing that you have the stronger, more capable lift than the norm. Yes, this is a rare van to find: attractive; standard length; nice roof (not super tall and ugly boxy); with HD lift.

* Special custom floor: NEW: this now has what is one of my favorite improvements on wheelchair vans, which is very helpful to the person in the wheelchair and able-bodied folks as well. I actually consider this feature to be an improvement that many wheelchair vans ought to have, old or new. You see, if you pay close attention to how floors typically are in personal use wheelchair vans, you will notice that they are usually not actually solid, smooth and level. Rather, they are somewhat lumpy, bumpy and not as easy to maneuver a wheelchair on as they can be. This is because the factory metal floor of a van is not actually smooth, it has ridges and contours...plus has a carpet pad which wheelchair wheels sink into a bit, creating resistance to maneuvering. Based on my specifications and design, one of the shops I work with greatly improved the original floor treatment by removing the existing carpet and pad and then installing a sheet of wood directly over the lumpy, bumpy, contoured metal floor. And thus, it became a smooth, solid, level floor. And then a fantastic type of commercial carpet was used to cover the wood. This material is tough, and easy to clean. This van has this new flooring package, which notably improves the interior use of the van. Most importantly, it is a super surface to maneuver a wheelchair on.

* Floor anchors: has multiple locations of slots in the floor that anchor straps can be inserted into. Includes at least two quality anchor straps.

* EZ-Lock electronic floor anchoring system. This allows for a wheelchair to be parked in any location of your choosing, so you can come and go with only the push of a button to disengage from the floor unit. (please inquire about details)

History of Ownership

Certified

This vehicle is 'CERTIFIED': There are a combined 76 mechanical and cosmetic aspects included in the Wheelchair Van Oasis Certification process. A foundational step of the rejuvenation process is when each vehicle receives an extensive inspection by an objective, independent  third- party service and repair facility.  Suggested service, repairs and improvements are then performed by various professional specialists. The result is your assurance  that each of the 76 aspects meets or exceeds the condition level of good, or satisfactory.

Each van does of course have various elements which exceed the promised level of good or satisfactory, which the Certified program assures. Some are brand new improvements performed during rejuvenation.  And others are obvious service or repairs performed recently, prior to my ownership.  As for those, I only list here those positives which are certain, based on my either having a receipt, and/or due to being obvious to the inspecting-mechanic. I refer to these as NEW OR RECENTLY SERVICED ASPECTS

Here are the new and recent items:

New: rear brakes; both front window motors; service power seat; wipers; lube/oil/filter; service rear heater motor; major transmission service; alignment; major rear differential service and rebuild; service power locks; service wheelchair lift.

Approximate retail value/cost of above-listed items: $2,800
(extensive investment in cosmetic rejuvenation is in addition to this $2,800)

You Might Like To Know...

* Each of my vans has a superb paint sealant as the final step of the extreme detail. If you were to have a professional apply a treatment the cost would be several hundred dollars.

* It is very rare to find a personal use wheelchair van with heavy duty lift such as this van has. Additionally, most vans that have a lift with 800 pound capacity began as commercial/institutional vans with extra long body, which most folks don't want as their personal use van.

Summary of this Gem

When I get calls from folks seeking a standard length, personal use style van with a heavy-duty lift, I usually don't have one. When I do, they usually aren't as fancy and highly equipped as this one. Plus, this van has such low miles it is quite exceptional. Finally, I don't know if it is obvious in the photos, but this is a fantastic, luxurious color!
