Options and Equipment

THE VAN:  began as a well equipped model that includes the uncommon and attractive "Sport" features and designation. It has the most common motor in such vans, its a 3.3 liter 6 cylinder and auto with overdrive. Has desirable comfort and convenience items, many of which are options, such as: power windows, locks and mirrors; tilt wheel and cruise control; upgraded CD stereo; factory fog lights; rear ventilation; dual A/C; overhead console with MPG, direction, temperature, etc.  It also has a factory rear spoiler, upgraded interior and exterior trim; special light burgundy pearl-red paint; fancy wheel covers; etc. Yes, this is a very well equipped and uncommonly sharp wheelchair van

GOODIES: custom striping

MOBILITY:

When new, this was converted by the largest of the two decades-old premium brands of convertors, Braun/IMS.  This one is a model called "IMS Rampvan". Such companies begin with brand new vans and turn them into well engineered, convenient, reliable and safe mobility vans. The substantial package of conversion includes these features:

* deeply lowered floor from rear seat to the dash. This creates a solid, smooth, level surface which is super for maneuvering a wheelchair on.

* Easily removable front passenger seat assembly. This allows parking a wheelchair in that location, if you so choose.

* Drivers seat assembly is mounted atop a very desirable and valuable (new cost $4-$5,000) device referred to as a "turning seat base". This allows for extreme travel fore and aft, up and down, and most notably...this seat turns apx 100 degrees, allowing folks with a certain level of functionality to transfer in/out of their wheelchair in order to drive from the regular seat.

* power sliding side entry door, with "gate" feature for easy entry/exit when ramp is stowed

* power ramp out the side door

* "kneeling" suspension, causes rear of van to lower several inches, which makes the ramp angle more gentle and thus is easier to load and unload.

* many locations in floor where anchor straps can be inserted, allowing safe and secure hauling of wheelchairs

* multiple switch locations for operating door, ramp, suspension. Very versatile controls.

* wireless remote control for operating door, ramp and suspension

History of Ownership

With the exception of a few thousand miles, there has been only two owners since it was new. For the past apx. 10 years this was owned by a retired engineer. As is typical for engineers, in my experience, he was very concerned and thorough about taking good care of his vehicle and as a result, it was nicer than most when I acquired it.  It was used for transporting his wife, who died about a year ago.

Certified

This vehicle is 'CERTIFIED': There are a combined 76 mechanical and cosmetic aspects  included in the Wheelchair Van Oasis "Certification" process.   A foundational step of the rejuvenation process is when each vehicle receives an extensive inspection by an objective, independent  third- party service and repair facility.  Suggested service, repairs and improvements are then performed by various professional specialists.   The  result is your assurance  that each of the 76 aspects  meets  or exceeds the condition level of good, or satisfactory

For details regarding list of 76 cosmetic and mechanical aspects, please click here.

Each van does of course have various elements which exceed the promised level of good, or
satisfactory, which the "Certified" program assures.  Some are brand new improvements performed during rejuvenation.  And others are obvious service or repairs performed recently, prior to my ownership.  As for those, I only list here those positives which are certain, based on my either having a receipt, and/or due to being obvious to the inspecting-mechanic.  I refer to these as  "NEW OR RECENTLY SERVICED ASPECTS".

As for this vehicle, it was taken such great care of by it owner of the last 10 years (a retired engineer) that it needed less than most vans of this vintage to get it to the "Certified" level. Here are the new and recent items:

New: wipers; alignment; repair and service ramp, door, kneeling; exhaust repair;

Recent: front brakes; water pump; serpentine belts; battery

Approximate retail value/cost of above-listed items: $1,300

(extensive investment in cosmetic rejuvenation is in addition to this $1,300)

Carfax Report Summary

(Carfax is a widely used database which indicates the history of a vehicle including accidents, prior owners, etc.)

Nothing notably negative or unusual: no frame damage...no airbags deployed...no structural damage...no "red marks"...no major accident.

You Might Like To Know...

* Each of my vans has a superb paint sealant as the final step of the extreme detail. If you were to have a professional apply a treatment the cost would be several hundred dollars.

* Caravan, Voyager and Town & Country all all brands that are cousins to each other. They are virtually the same vans, with only misc differences between them.

Summary of this Gem

I am always happy to have another "Certified" lowered floor minivan that has nice miles and great features that I can offer in this price range. This one is right in the "sweet spot" of what many families hope to find. The fact that it looks sharp and fantastic is a sweet bonus ! :)
